The Ebb & Flow of God

Nature shows us that there is a back-and-forth rhythm to nature, a reaching and retreating. The heart contracts and expands, the lungs inhale and exhale, and the earth presents a day and night, winter and summer, a time of hibernation and a season of growth.

Do you ever find yourself in this ebb and flow with God? I do.

Sometimes, God feels so close and intimate that my joy is indescribable. Yet, some mornings I wake up feeling strangely alone as my feet hit the floor.

I know it can only be me that has drifted from God's presence, not Him abandoning me. Yet I also know that a child cannot always have their Father in plain sight. The Father must contract his presence to allow His child to develop and grow.

Maturity necessitates that we step into the day feeling alone sometimes - yet knowing our Father is there, even when we can't see or feel His presence.

It is no wonder that God has many names. He reveals himself in many ways. I suspect His various attributes are like the ebb and flow of nature and sometimes more like a game of hide and seek.

How do you experience God?

Do you find yourself in the ebb and flow of nature, or do you experience Him some other way?
